I suppose it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Stardew Valley is headed to the Switch 2. Honestly, I don’t think there is any other game out there beyond the original Doom that has been ported to as many platforms as Stardew Valley. And that’s for good reason, it’s still the best farming life sim available on the market, outdoing its inspiration, Story of Seasons/Harvest Moon, handily. Best of all, if you already own the game on Switch 1, the developer ConcernedApe has confirmed it’ll be a free upgrade for everyone (except Japan).
Stardew Valley is coming to the Switch 2 this fall
Thanks to a recent Nintendo Direct, we now know Stardew Valley is set to release on the Switch 2 this fall, and fall starts later this month, so the release shouldn’t be far away. Still, we don’t have a firm date for the specific day of the release, but we hope to see it before the end of the month.
It’ll be a free upgrade for Switch 1 owners
Better yet, the developer ConcernedApe has already confirmed that Switch 1 owners will receive the updated Switch 2 version for free, except for those who live in Japan, where it will be sold for the minimum allowed on the store. So you won’t even have to splash out to enjoy the new mouse controls and 4-player local co-op if you already own the Switch 1 version.
If you’ve purchased every other Stardew Valley release, get ready to add one more to the collection
I know I, for one, can’t wait to play the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Stardew Valley. Sure, the Switch 1 version already looks pretty good on the Switch 2, but ConcernedApe has confirmed that performance improvements are expected, ideally ironing out a few of the game’s dropped frames when things get demanding. More or less, it’s looking like Switch 2 could be the ideal place to play Stardew Valley whenever the update drops, especially with mouse controls that should make things like placing furniture and watering crops a lot easier to manage.
There’s still no mention of resolution or framerate
Sadly, there is currently no information on what resolutions the upgraded version will play at for either handheld or docked. While I’d love to see 120Hz support for handheld play at a native 1080p, somehow I feel this high framerate would make the game buckle, even on the Switch 2, but a boy can still dream. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for now.
