Amazon Kindle’s free First Reads e-books for December are now available

Your choice of one free title and a bonus short read

Welp, the year is almost over, we have officially entered December 2025, and this means Amazon’s latest group of free First Reads titles is now available for Prime members (don’t worry, non-Prime members get a discount on the e-books). This month’s choices are slim, with only eight titles, one of which is a free short read, leaving you to choose a free e-book from seven novels that range from suspense to fantasy.

December’s First Reads choices are oddly slim for the Christmas holiday

Pick from seven titles, with a bonus short read

December feels like an odd month to get stingy with the First Reads program, and yet this appears to be exactly what Amazon has done. In stark contrast to last month, which had a stacked selection from male and female authors across a varied list of genres with nine titles to choose from and a bonus short read, we have two fewer titles to choose from in December, for some odd reason. Heck, October offered two free e-books out of ten, which makes December’s slim selection look like the Grinch selected them.

Still, free e-books are free e-books, so if you’re interested in women’s fiction, then this month’s bonus short read from Lisa Wingate, called The Last Father-Daughter Dance: A Short Story, may be of interest. Beyond that, you can choose a free e-book from two suspense titles, a thriller, a fantasy title, a romance title, and two titles in the “book club fiction” genre, a strange distinction that seems to signal these are books worth discussing with others.

My personal choice this week, since I’m forgoing the bonus short read, is Marc Levy’s The Heart of Everything, a novel that explores the bond between father and son. This sounds like a heartfelt tale that feels like a good fit for the holidays, so I’m in.

All in all, the latest round of First Reads e-books are here for December, and while it’s slim pickings, it’s probably not a great idea to look a gift horse in the mouth (even if this is a gift we pay for with our Prime subscriptions). So, what will you choose as your free e-book this month?
