Novelkeys launches Hatsune Miku mechanical keyboard collection

Complete with licensed GMK keycaps

As the hobby of building mechanical keyboards continues to gain popularity, we see more and more officially licensed collections emerge. Brands like Transformers, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Moomin, and even Scrabble (yes, the board game) are readily available. We’ve also seen a bevy of unlicensed products over the years that lean heavily on the themes of their inspiration, from popular anime to brands like Coca-Cola. As you can imagine, the unlicensed products are rather cheap, not only in cost but also in quality, which is why it’s always exciting to see officially licensed products come to fruition.

Case in point, there are endless Vocaloid-themed keysets that contain Hatsune Miku art available on shops like Aliexpress and Etsy, but their quality leaves a lot to be desired. This all changes with the fresh launch of Novelkeys’ Hatsune Miku Collection, a comprehensive range of products that includes a custom TKL mechanical keyboard, high-quality doubleshot GMK keycaps, and a deskpad that looks too damn good to pass up.

Pre-orders are open until November 1st, with a planned delivery date of Q2 2026.

Theme it up with a fresh collection of Hatsune Miku mechanical keyboard products

Building and collecting mechanical keyboards often involves themes that are layered and intertwined. Matching a keyset color to your switches and stabilizers is one way to go, but perhaps you also want to match your weight material to your plate, or your case material to your wrist rest material. One thing is for sure: creating a build that matches a theme and color profile is a great feeling, and Novelkeys is certainly tapping into this with its Hatsune Miku Collection pre-order. Nose to tail, Novekeys has everything you need to theme a delectable licensed Hatsune Miku board.

Choose from a keyboard, keycaps, and a deskpad

I like that Novelkeys tries to keep things simple for the uninitiated. Instead of having to pair a board with keycaps and figuring out if the keyset covers the planned layout of the board, Novelkeys is selling a completely customized board, known as the Classic-TKL, as a pre-built kit with keycaps included.

While this is an injection-molded case (cheaper to produce than milled cases), it comes in a unique, see-through, dark gray with a custom teal silicon foot. Essentially, it is themed to match familiar Hatsune Miku colors, making the board a perfect match for the included GMK Hatsune Miku keycaps.

So if you’re looking to pre-order a complete board that includes caps, that’ll run you $249. While this may sound high for what is typically a $89 keyboard, you have to remember that the complete board includes a set of GMK keycaps, which retail for $165 for the base set. So, you’re actually saving $4 if you buy the Classic-TKL Hatsune Miku Edition rather than a board and caps separately, and you get a custom color for your board to boot.

But not everyone needs a new keyboard; maybe you are just looking to pick up some new GMK keycaps. What’s nice is that there are actually two different base sets to choose from, and while the $165 Miku Base is striking with its light gray modifiers, the $185 IF Base Module set and its dark gray mods really allow the bright teal of the alpha keys to pop. Oh, and if you are not a fan of Japanese legends on your alphas, there is the $70 Voicebank add-on that keeps the alphas clean (though I’m not a huge fan of having to buy clean alphas separately).

But what good is a new keycap set without some mods to go with it? The Novelties are $65 if you’d like to accent your base caps. There’s also the Rythym add-on, which offers a range of spacebars for $40. What’s interesting here is that there is a wide range of bars, perfect for smaller 40% boards; yet there is no 40s kit available, and the base set of keys hardly offers the coverage needed for the more wacky 40% keyboards out there.

Lastly, but to me, most importantly, there is a matching Hatsune Miku deskpad for $30 that comes in two versions: a smooth or rough finish (I prefer rough, smooth deskpads stain faster from sweat). I’m a big sucker for awesome deskpads, and the weeb in me is loving the design, likely thanks to Pisuke’s stunning interpretation of the popular Vocaloid.

If you’re a Hatsune Miku fan, there’s a lot to like about Novelkeys’ new collection

I’ve been building mechanical keyboards for many, many years now, so it’s rare that a new keyset surprises me, and yet Novelkeys has blown me away with its Hatsune Miku Collection. The colors are on point, and offering a matching keyboard is a nice touch for anyone who doesn’t want to go to the trouble of tracking down and building their own.

What’s especially appreciated is that the prices aren’t bad, and will be higher once extras are in stock. Now is the time to buy if you’re looking to save a little money. Yes, you will have to wait until Q2 2026 to receive your goods, but like the adage says, good things come to those who wait.
