Square Enix just announced and released Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven on Xbox for console and PC

It's on sale for $35 for the next two weeks

When it comes to Square Enix games launching on Xbox, it’s rarely a given. Sure, Square stated earlier in the year that it plans to bring more titles to the platform; however, notable games from the SaGa and Final Fantasy series are still absent. This is why today’s announcement at the Tokyo Games Show that Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven’s is launching on Xbox came as a shock; Square Enix is actually making good on its word.

The Xbox store page for Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is already up, and the game is currently discounted to $35, offering a savings of $15 off the $50 retail price. This sale will last for the next two weeks, providing ample time for fans to scoop up the latest Square title on Xbox.

Purchase Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven for Xbox and PC at one price

With Steam proving so popular with PC gamers, it can be challenging for new stores to make any headway. This is why Epic Games gives away free games every week, in the hopes you’ll build a library and start using its store in earnest. Microsoft has taken a different approach to enticing users on PC, where some of its titles net you both the console and PC versions at one price, a feature known as the Xbox Play Anywhere program. I must admit this program greatly appeals to me, allowing me to easily bounce between my PC in my bedroom and my Xbox console in my living room.

Seeing that Revenge of the Seven is not only on sale for a low $35 in celebration of its release, but that the purchase will grant access to both the console and PC versions, I’m definitely considering the acquisition, and I say that having recently purchased the game for the Switch 2, it’s simply that good.

Revenge of the Seven is one of Square’s best remakes in recent memory

Unlike games like Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana, I don’t hold any nostalgia for the SaGa series (at least beyond the first three Game Boy games). This resulted in me bouncing off the 2D versions of SaGa 2 for years. I could never get invested, that is, until I tried the 3D remake Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven on a whim. I’ve been hooked since, and already own the remake on several platforms.

Truth be told, Square Enix isn’t well known for optimizing its titles, so I was definitely shocked to see how well Revenge of the Seven runs on PC and now the Switch 2. Additionally, the 3D graphics are well-executed, offering an old-school feel while still appearing quite modern. When one of my biggest complaints about Square Enix is how it often refuses to optimize its games (looking right at you, Star Ocean: The Divine Force), it’s certainly refreshing to see that plenty of care was taken with the development of Revenge of the Seven.

Here’s hoping Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven’s Xbox launch is a sign of bigger things to come

Seeing Square Enix drop Revenge of the Seven on Xbox out of the blue is certainly encouraging that more ports could be on the way, ideally also supporting Xbox’s Play Anywhere program. After all, it’s not like Xbox is known for JRPGs, so it could certainly use as many as developers are willing to bring.

So, if you’d like to experience Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven on your Xbox Series S/X or PC, you have fourteen days to snag it at a worthwhile discount, priced to move at $35, a fine price for a console and PC copy of the game.
