Undertale celebrates its 10th anniversary with a free browser game for everyone

This is how you show your fans some love

It’s been ten years since the indie RPG bullet-hell Undertale launched. The game has since amassed a handful of Game of the Year awards from a bevy of sites and streamers. Heck, even the developer Toby Fox won Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction at the D.I.C.E. Awards. It’s not just the critics that are delighted, either; Steam users agree with Overwhelmingly Positive reviews across the board. Suffice it to say, Undertale has secured its place in indie gaming history as one of the greats.

Well, in celebration of the game’s tenth anniversary, a two-day stream event was held (watch both streams above). To say these streams were a resounding success is an understatement, with the first already showcasing over 400K views. But these streams weren’t the only gift to fans; a browser game is now available on the official Undertale website, offering two separate fights. One with Sans, and the other with Mr. Sunshine and Aberrant, who were showcased on the 2nd day’s stream (via Famitsu).

Head on over to the Undertale 10th anniversary battle website, and you can choose from two free battles to play through. Sans is a rather tricky fight; you can’t battle the character directly. Instead, you’ll have to rely on your platforming abilities or get shoved off the stage. It’s a battle of endurance. Mr. Sunshine and Aberrant require a different tack, where you’ll have to avoid everything shot at you, just like the regular game, and it’s a tough battle.

Now, I was unable to get my controller working with this browser game on my PC, which left me with my keyboard for controls. Let’s just say a keyboard with no arrow keys is no way to tackle either battle, lol. The good news is that you can also play in a mobile browser, and this includes touch controls with a digital d-pad and two buttons. While the battles are still challenging, it’s appreciated that you can play anywhere.

Your eyes don’t deceive, those are touch controls

Hands down, there is no better way to celebrate a game’s anniversary than to offer some free content to the fans. So if you’re a big ‘ol Undertale stan, love a challenge, or simply dig free browser games, then you need to do yourself a favor and dip into Undertale’s 10th anniversary battle game post haste.
