Pixel-perfect savings: Best retro handheld deals for Black Friday

It's the best time to score a new handheld or two

The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes Black Friday sales. After all, nothing says, “I’m thankful for having you in my life” quite like a gift, especially in this economy.

While there are tons of other Black Friday deals going on, we’d like to highlight some of the best retro handheld deals to get for the gamers in your life (or yourself, we don’t judge.)

As a reminder, Guilty Gamer isn’t monetized, and these are not affiliate links; we simply like these deals and want to share with interested gamers looking to save some cash.

Powkiddy

Starting off with the lower-end handhelds, Powkiddy is offering a $15 discount on any item over $20. This includes handhelds that are already on sale, which can add up to quite a steal. The Trimui Smart Pro and Powkiddy V20 are very well-liked and are perfect gifts for children. These handhelds will play anything up to the PS1 without any issues and can even play some N64 and PSP games, as well.

Powkiddy’s sale goes on until December 3rd, and the discount code is BFRIDAY.

Anbernic

While Anbernic does offer some higher-end handhelds, its best work has always been with the cheaper ones. Anbernic’s XX line of handhelds are highly praised for their build quality, various form factors, and affordability. Just like with the Powkiddy devices, these will have no problems playing everything up to PS1.

This sale goes on until December 3rd.

Retroid

Retroid handhelds are the poster-boys for higher-end emulation, and for good reason. Every handheld listed here uses an AMOLED display, and these devices can emulate Gamecube, PS2, Wii, and even some lightweight Switch games.

Use codes BFCM$15 for the RP5 and RP Flip 2, and BFCM$30 for the RP Mini v2. This sale goes on until December 1st.

AYN

AYN handhelds are peak performance. These devices will handle any emulator that’s available on Android, and can even play a few PC games through Gamehub, Game Native, or Winlator. The Odin 2 line is definitely overkill for most people, but it will be greatly appreciated by those who play more demanding games.

At the time of writing, the only model left for the Odin 2 is the Max version. The Odin 2 Portal is only available in the Pro and Max models. Needless to say, these handhelds are selling fast.

You’ll need to use the code aynsave50 at checkout. This sale goes on until December 1st.

Takun is an off-grid gamer with a handheld addiction that started with a purple GameBoy Color back in 1998. He's owned every Nintendo and Sony handheld since, and currently owns several retro handhelds and a handheld PC. He's here to share his thoughts on modern handhelds from the perspective of a mountain-dweller that gets all of his electricity from solar panels.
