Ever since Palmer Luckey showed off his personal Anduril-themed Chromatic on Joe Rogan, it was inevitable that fans would be interested in securing their own. But at the time this unique model was shown off, there was no telling if it would actually come to fruition. But then Anduril recently announced an auction for a 1:1 model, the same as Palmer’s, along with a limited drop on the Anduril Gear store that ships with a matching pair of Porta Pro headphones, which sold out in less than ten minutes. All proceeds from these two sales benefit the Stack Up charity, helping veterans through gaming. And as we all know, Game Boys aren’t uncommon in war zones.
Still, there was a problem. Everyone else who wished they could purchase an Anduril-themed Chromatic was out of luck unless they wanted to deal with scalpers. A plea was made on Reddit, and suffice it to say, Modretro heard its fans loud and clear. So, after the initial auction and Anduril sale for charity, Modretro has listed the model in its own store as a pre-order, this time with no connection to a charity; it’s simply a new bundle edition available for $349.99, all the while taking the wind out of scalpers’ sails.
What you get with the Anduril Chromatic + Porta Pro Bundle

While the $349.99 price point may sound high at first blush, what you actually get in return matches Modretro’s current offerings. If you buy a sapphire screen Chromatic in any color (which the Anduril Chromatic comes with), that will run you $299.99, and if you add a matching pair of Porta Pro headphones, that’s another $49.99, adding up to $349.98, one penny less than what the Anduril Chromatic pre-order bundle is selling for. So the price is comparable, and yet you get a handful of extras with the Anduril Chromatic.
First off, the Andruril model is Cerakoted (in the US), a coating known for its durability. Second, the screws are treated with titanium nitride to harden them and prevent easy stripping. Third, the device is decorated with custom grooving, giving it a look similar to the grooves on an original Game Boy. Plus, there is additional gold-color printing for text and accents (which just so happens to match the limited and matching Porta Pro headphones that come with the bundle). Lastly, you get an Anduril logo charm that is crafted from 304 stainless steel and finished with the same titanium nitride as the screws.

Of course, we reached out to Modretro to confirm all of this info, which is why we also know that the magnesium-aluminum alloy used for the body of the Anduril Chromatic is the same material currently used in every Chromatic, confirmed by Modretro. So there is no difference in this regard; it’s a lightweight material designed to withstand abuse.
Expect initial shipments to happen in the summer
So far, Modretro has reliably released its products when it says it will, with previous pre-orders going off without a hitch. So when the company states that the Anduril Chromatic + Porta Pro Bundle will ship this upcoming summer if you purchased one before Christmas, that will likely be the case. Overall, the pricing is right, and since pre-orders appear to be unlimited, everyone who wants an Anduril Chromatic can get one.
Ultimately, if you have a hankering for a unique Chromatic that uses more premium and durable build materials than any other model, the Anduril Chromatic looks to be that device. Will you be buying one?
